Only 1000 days until I leave for Japan
Well, I only have 1000 days until I leave for my trip to Japan. Of course my classmembers probably realize that I am not counting in base 10! I could also say that I will leave for Japan in 13 days. Can any of you figure out how many days it is in base 10?
Try on your own first, but then if you get stuck, or need to check your answer, check out http://www.math.com/students/converters/source/base.htm
I'll be checking the comments section to see who is still using their math minds even with school being out for the summer. Also, if you would like, perhaps post a countdown to something that is coming for you soon (try it in a different base!).

I can't figure out the answer
Try plugging 1000 into the base 2 place value model:
16 8 4 2 1
Then, try plugging 13 into the base 5 place value model:
125 25 5 1
The website listed can also help.
the answer is 8
Very good....shhhhhhhhh....
:-)
you leave in ocho days, or 71[base 9] - 50 [base 7] + 21[base11]>< 0[base 1] - 101010
base 2 is on the last one
Very nice Matt....have you seen Revenge of the Sith 11 (base 2)times yet?
I like hard questions like that even though in my opinion that wasn't that hard it wasn't like being attacked by 3,678 ranchor monsters and 456,862 nexus with 958,756 droidekas. [1,419,296 star wars things]
no,only 10[base 2]
Mr. Heiden How can you tell Jessica to quiet down about her answer whan I can see it? But I tryed it out and it did still come out as 8.AND I still used MY same PENCIL GRIP trying to figure it out!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !
Well, Hannah, it was sort of a joke about Jessica being supposed to quiet down....but I think you understood that.
And on that pencil grip, some day perhaps you'll come around and change to the correct grip....
I hope she will 2!!!! some day in a galaxy far far away......................................... on Tattowine she WILL change her Pencil grip 100,000,000 yaers form now.
i also checked it and it was 8.
OF COURSE I DID!!!!!! HE HE!
And Austins is funny too! (i hope so 2 long time in a galxy......
in Tatooine she WILL chage her pencil grip in 100,000,0000 years)
is definetly correct!
Mr. Heiden --- Your students are brilliant. I think I will only teach first grade, and not GT kids. But I did finally figure out the answer after I read what base to work in.

Matt, I did go see "Revenge of the Sith" today. I thought it was excellent--I really enjoyed seeing how it led into the 4th movie.

the gerbels are great. they have gotten two new tubes.
Nicholas: I am glad to hear about the gerbils doing well. I'm sure you have taken great care of them. Say hello to them for me.
Mr. Heiden are you all packed yet? Have you started practicing you Japanese?
I can't wait to work with such an amazing group of students. We look forward to hearing from you while you're on you trip.
By the way, Revenge of the Sith was awesome! May the force be with you while you are in Japan.
the gerbels have been fine for .75 percent of my time serveing.
Nicholas: I am glad to hear they are doing well. Was there an incident with the other time that they weren't OK??!?!?! (As long as they made it through, you don't have to tell me!)
